Journals

The cover sheet.

One sheet, printed, that names the stack. Fill it in, drop it on top of the pile, feed the scanner — the pages themselves do the rest.

A journal kept on paper
the journal of ____________________
begun ____________________ · last page ____________________

To the scanner: this sheet is page 1 of the stack. Keep the pages in order; a torn or blank page is still a page.
When the sheet comes out the other side, it marks the pile the way a title page marks a book: this is whose it is, what it is, and when it ran.

A book is a book whether it is printed, scanned, or turned in a drawer — a journal gets the same care it gave its writer.
If this journal is ever sealed, this sheet is part of the deed: the paper is the thing itself, and the scan is the proof.
